Household Hazardous Material
Waste Commission of Scott County’s Household Hazardous Material (HHM) Facilities serve Scott County and Rock Island County residents and businesses that generate a limited amount of hazardous material such as paints, pesticides and cleaners.
New! Changes for fall 2015
Weekday drop-off: No appointment is necessary to drop off household hazardous materials from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Scott Area Landfill. (Please note that at this time, the household hazardous materials satellite location at the Scott Area Recycling Center is CLOSED for construction due to upcoming single-stream recycling changes. The building is currently closed with no public access.)
Saturday drop-off: You must make an appointment online to drop off household hazardous materials on a Saturday at the Scott Area Landfill. (Please note that all appointments are taken at the landfill location, as the household hazardous materials satellite location at the Scott Area Recycling Center is CLOSED for construction due to upcoming single-stream recycling changes.The building is currently closed with no public access.)
Please note: Waste motor oil, oil filters,and antifreeze must be dropped off at the Scott Area Landfill during regular weekday hours or on Saturday with an appointment. (Please note that the drop-off location for these items at the Scott Area Recycling Center is no longer available, as the building is closed and under construction due to upcoming single-stream recycling changes.)
There is no charge for Scott and Rock Island County residents to bring household hazardous material to the facility. Rock Island County Waste Management Agency
covers the costs for Rock Island County residents. All other counties' residents are charged like businesses - up to a maximum of $35. Businesses are charged according to the type and quantity of waste and should contact the Commission’s special waste coordinator by e-mail
or phone at (563) 388-1446 for assistance.
Acceptable Items: Hazardous products can be found throughout the home. Look in the kitchen, bathroom, basement and garage for items such as cleaners, paints, pesticides or automotive products. See a list of acceptable items here.
- Please remain in vehicle at all times.
- No smoking.
- Keep items in original containers and never mix materials together,
- Label containers that are unmarked.
- Glass containers should be packed to prevent breakage.
- Containers cannot be returned.
- Transport material separate from passengers and pets in vehicle, preferably in the trunk.

Directions to Landfill/Buffalo Facility: The Household Hazardous Material Permanent Facility is located at the Scott Area Landfill, located on County Road Y-48 three miles south of Highway 61 (West River Drive). From Davenport, take River Drive west past the I-280 interchange to the next intersection with a stoplight. Turn left (south) onto Y-48 and the Landfill is 3 miles down on the left hand side of the road. The HHM Facility is the smaller brick building on the right. Park under the canopy and remain in your vehicle.
