The mission of Waste Commission of Scott County is to provide sustainable recycling and waste management solutions that positively impact Scott County.

We strive to be the industry and community leader in waste management, recycling, and environmental stewardship.

Comprehensive Plan

The Commission works regionally to submit a Comprehensive Plan to Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) every five years. This regional planning area includes: Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine and Scott counties in Iowa. The comprehensive plan is a course of action developed and established cooperatively between cities, counties, and sanitary disposal projects regarding their chosen integrated solid waste management system, its participation, waste reduction strategies, and disposal methods.

Environmental Management System

The Commission has been designated as an organization for an Environmental Management System (EMS) in the state of Iowa. An EMS develops a process of self-assessment and continuous improvement. Read more about the State of Iowa’s EMS.

All WCSC Facilities will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Normal hours resume July 5.

All WCSC Facilities will be closed September 2 in observance of Labor Day. Normal hours resume September 3.

All WCSC Facilities will be closed November 28 in observance of Thanksgiving Day. Normal hours resume Friday, November 29.

All WCSC Facilities will be open December 24 and CLOSED December 25. Normal hours resume on December 26.

All WCSC Facilities will be closed Wednesday, January 1 in observance of New Year's Day. Normal hours resume January 2.

WCSC Facilities open regular hours on Friday, March 29. The Scott Area Landfill will be closed Saturday, March 30 in observance of Easter. Normal hours resume April 1, 2024.

All WCSC Facilities are open regular hours on President's Day (February 19).

All WCSC Facilities are open regular hours on Juneteenth (June 19).

All WCSC Facilities are open regular hours on Veteran's Day (November 11).

Due to strong winds, the Scott Area Landfill will close at 2pm on Tuesday, April 16.

Normal hours resume on Wednesday, April 17.

Attention: Concrete repair occurring on Scott Area Landfill's main driveway from 7/24-7/27.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane. Watch for flaggers directing traffic during the repair.
