Medical Sharps

For safety reasons, please do not put needles or containers with needles into your garbage or recycling.

The Commission’s Sharps Program provides residents of Scott and Rock Island counties with red, rigid containers for sharps disposal free of charge at:

  • Scott Area Recycling Center – Household Hazardous Material Facility [view map]
    5640 Carey Ave., Davenport

As an alternative, residents may dispose of medical sharps in rigid laundry detergent containers with lids tightly secured with tape (no milk jugs or coffee cans with plastic lids, cardboard boxes, or plastic bags; these containers are too soft for safe disposal). Mark the container appropriately to prevent it from being placed in your recycling bin or trash.

Full containers may be dropped off at the Scott Area Recycling Center – Household Hazardous Material Facility, 5640 Carey Ave., Davenport.

No appointments are necessary, simply pull under the awning, and a staff member will come out to assist you.
