Sharps Containers and Disposal:
For safety reasons, please do not put needles or containers with needles into your garbage or recycling. The Commission’s Sharps Program provides residents of Scott and Rock Island counties with red, rigid containers for Sharps disposal free of charge at the following locations:
Homebound residents, please call 563-326-8618 for arrangements.
As an alternative, residents may dispose such items in rigid laundry detergent containers with lids tightly secured with tape (no milk jugs or coffee cans with plastic lids, as such plastics are too soft for safe disposal). Mark the container appropriately to prevent it from being placed in your recycling bin or trash.
Full Sharps containers may be dropped off at one of the Household Hazardous Material (HHM) Facilities. Please call 563-381-1300 for drop-off hours.
