Waste Commission of Scott County provides grants for educational institutions, local non-profit organizations and community groups and member communities of our 28E agreement.
Although we are a governmental agency, no tax dollars are used for any of our programs or services. Funding derives from user fees, primarily those collected at the Scott Area Landfill. Fees are paid to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for waste going into our landfill. A portion of the fees are retained locally to provide waste reduction and recycling programs. Each quarter, we set aside a portion of the fees retained locally for waste reduction and recycling programs to fund this grant program. The amount available is dependent upon that quarter’s revenue. Applications are reviewed on an on-going basis by an internal review committee. Award winners will be notified within 30 days of the receipt of the application.
Each school in Scott County is eligible for up to $500.
